Optimizing your website for mobile devices is absolutely essential today. Mobile-friendly websites offer users a superior experience when using a mobile device, generally resulting in increased engagement and happier parents and students. With the rising number of people using mobile devices to browse the web, it is no longer optional for businesses like yours to ensure that your website is compatible with all the latest small screens.
Fonts:
Use easy-to-read fonts that are readable on both large and small screens. Also, make sure your layout can adjust when users enlarge the font in their browser settings.
We suggest 16px font size or larger in body text on mobile devices. Keep in mind the limitations of mobile devices when designing your site in the desktop version.
Buttons:
Use large buttons. This will make it easy for mobile users to tap on the screen and navigate to the different pages of your site. Large buttons are easier to click on a mobile device, so make sure that your call-to-action buttons are big and easy to find. In addition to the size of buttons, consider also the placement in relation to other elements - don't put things too close together on the screen! Make sure that clickable (tappable) elements have enough space (margin) around them so that it's easy for users to click just the button they intend to.
Pop-ups:
If you decide to incorporate a pop-up, make sure it can be quickly and easily closed. Pop-ups that take up the whole screen can be particularly annoying for mobile users, so ensure they are designed to be easily dismissible. The last thing you want is to irritate your customers!
Optimized Images:
Ensure that your images are tailored for mobile devices by optimizing them. This involves minimizing the file size and selecting images that suit the screen they will be displayed on. By optimizing your images, you can enhance the page speed of your website, leading to faster loading pages and an enriched user experience.
This may sound technical, but you can search the internet and find a simple 1 or 2 step tutorial using programs already built into your computer to easily resize images before you upload them to your site. If an image needs to fill a spot on the page that is 500px (pixels) wide, then there is no need to upload one that is at 4k resolution (over 4 thousand pixels) needlessly making the page load painfully slow for your site visitors.
Our site hosting infrastructure handles serving up images from the server closest to the visitor and compressing images before serving them which helps a ton, but there is just no substitute for getting an image close to the right size before uploading it.
Short Contact Forms:
Mobile users frequently search while on the move, making it crucial to utilize concise forms that are straightforward to complete. This entails steering clear of lengthy, intricate forms and opting for brief, uncomplicated ones instead.
GPS Directions:
Ensure that GPS directions are included on your mobile website if you have a physical location. This adjustment will simplify the process for mobile users to locate or contact you. Again, this may sound more technical than it actually is. For most of us, linking to a google map location for our business will take care of this need.
Call to Action:
Ensure the mobile version features a mobile-friendly call-to-action, like a phone number that is clickable, or a button that simply says "click to call" to facilitate easy contact with mobile users.
Use Google Analytics:
Google Analytics is a powerful and user-friendly free tool, provided by Google, that enables you to effectively monitor and analyze the traffic to your website. By utilizing Google Analytics, you can gain valuable insights into the behavior of your website visitors, such as which pages they visit most frequently, how long they stay on your site, and where they come from. You can also identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions that will ultimately lead to a more efficient and user-friendly online experience.
